The Lake

This is one interesting and unforgetable incident that happened while i was joining my coll, that was in the outskirts of pune. I already knew two of my batchmates. It was raining cats and dogs in mumbai, causing all trains enroute mumbai- chennai to be cancelled foer the next 4 days or so. We had to report to college. So we managed to get flight tickets. The three of us landed in mumbai airport and took a taxi to pune. We reached the campus near Talegaon. As the campus started to unravel before our eyes, we first noticed a beautiful lake with crotons planted. The rain had washed the place clean and the campus was well engineered to avoid stagnant water at any place. We were allotted our cabins and went and setteled up there. Ours were the first batch to begin in that academic year. So the senior clowns had not yet arrived. We met more of batchmates and introduced ourselves. That evening in order to explore the campus since the rains had subsided then, we left the hostel in groups. We strolled towards the lake that was nearly a kilometer away from the hostel, chatting and pulling each other's legs...

As the way turned and opened into the lake with clean crotons and grass planted well washed by the rains and wellmaintained by the staff, we let out an awed gasp at the beautiful lake that was about 700-800 metres in perimeter. A light cool breeze blew into our faces. The only thought that was running in our minds was that this lake would be a good location to take a stroll in the evening after classes.

The next day, we had assembled early in the morning , at about 0600 hrs for our physical training session. the trainers introduced themselves. and said that the training would be hard but would defenitely help us in the future. that being the first day, they made us jog around the hostrel twice and let us soon. most of the classes that day were intro sessions and nothing much academic had started yet.

The next morning, at 0600hrs, we had assembled in th football ground and then a headcount was taken. We started to jog, aking it likely that it would be like yesterday. but it was not so. The stars had turned us down. we jogged till the lake and were already half panting. We were told that since it was our second day, we would jog twice around the lake and then assemble in the football field for som physical tune up exersice...

By the time we reached the field. We were panting our intestines out already. Every alternate day increased the distance of jog by a round of the lake. It was finally, limited to 5 rounds and then some more tune up exersice for the next 45 mins.

The lake started to become a viscious enemy waiting out there to pull out our intestines every morning. more over as days passed , we had to jog faster round the lake. All the romantic ideas that had popped up in our minds had turned up totally into hatred for the lake.

As time passed this was no more a herculian task for us. our bodies had got accoustomed to the workout. The meditation centre next the lake on the small hill in the campus was one of my favourite spots in the campus next to the swimmingpool.BUT one good lesson was learnt. the lake never did any bad to us. But still it was the devil just for the reason that it was so big!
sometimes this applies to people too. they are as such not bad, but they seem so to us by the way we are linked to them.
